Biography: Embraced by the infamous Autark Miguel Gabriel de los Santos, Carter Johnson has worked hard to escape the shadow of his erstwhile sire. He represents a by-gone age of America: the Southern Gentility (Texan via Virginia, if asked) so casually burned out by the war of Northern Aggression in nights past. His own origins predate those times, as he's almost as old as the country that birthed him. He'll greet all with a dry wit, wry grin, and cordial manner. He gleefully lets others underestimate him. All the better to observe them. They should know that country does not mean stupid.
After a time of inactivity, he returned to the Elysium of Gainesville, Florida to rebuild his stature within both Sect and Clan. In time, he held every city position save for Scourge and Prince within that Domain, including for two very strange weeks, Primogen of Clan Toreador. After the death of Heironymous Blood, Prince of Tampa Bay, and Praetor of the state, Carter ascended to Peer of the Realm.
In September of 2002, Gainesville’s Setite populace attempted a Praxis, which while it failed, weakened the Domain severely. Two weeks later, surprise, coordinated attacks on all the cities officers by Sabbat destroyed the Prince and Sheriff, as well as other members of the Domain. To this night, Carter believes such a precise attack could not have been performed without the collusion with the so-recently besmirched Setites. His ire to that most odious and infernal clan can be seen by his Domain nightly in the footwear he proudly displays—'snakeskin’ cowboy boots.
Aided by surviving officers of the Domain, the Rebellion forces were tracked to the old Florida capital of St. Augustine. With Setite activity at all time high within Gainesville, he was ordered out of the Domain, and per orders of the Strategoi, the Directorate of Gainesville was dissolved. Leading Camarilla ex-patriots east, they sacked and conquered the Domain, claiming Praxis within that Domain for the first time in over 200 years.
As Prince, he stewards over a domain as varied as any others of the Camarilla. St. Augustine, as the oldest Western city in the Americas, is a haunted city though. It’s native population of wraiths and the rare bloodline of Vampires known as Samedi keep things intriguing. The few surviving Sabbat fled north into Jacksonville, and remain a threat. Careful negotiating with the reclusive ‘stiffs’ has afforded him a wild card to play against his enemies.
Much of his nights now are filled with learning lore from the Tremere luminary, Primogen Nathlar Shadowbourne, practicing martial skill, and managing the Directorate of the state as Praetor. He is finding much buried history of the Domain on a nightly basis, including its former Ventrue Primogen, Lady Elizabeth York, who has since resumed her duties to the Clan.
Being Prince has opened Carter’s eyes to a great deal many threats to Clan and Sect, and he has a voracious appetite to learn more. His eldest childe once told him, that the impossible merely takes a bit longer, which he bears constantly in mind. With time, there is neither foe nor trouble that he cannot in some fashion defeat.
